Cheating is one of the most polarizing tropes in romance. Even when a book ends HE, infidelity along the way is a hard DNF for many readers. This page collects every book in our database that contains cheating or infidelity, sorted into three categories: main-lead cheating (one of the romantic leads cheats inside the timeline), side-character cheating (the infidelity belongs to parents, friends or exes), and grey-area situations (open relationships, overlap during an unclear breakup).
Pay attention to the category. A "main-lead cheating" book is painful to sit through even if the resolution is HE, while "side-character cheating" books — Pachinko, Love in the Time of Cholera — often just use it as backdrop and may not actually hit your specific trigger. Each card also notes whether the narrative treats the cheating as forgiven, atoned for, or never addressed.
Readers especially sensitive to betrayal in family contexts may also want Sexual Violence Warning and Self-Harm Warning. If you're trying to build a strictly clean romance shelf, start from Happy Ending Books and exclude the titles on this page.
